Jayson Andrus

Chief Andrus began working with Mesquite Fire Rescue in 2007 and has progressed from Paramedic/Firefighter to Critical Care Paramedic, Captain, and Fire Chief. Jayson Andrus became the sixth Fire Chief in Mesquite’s history in February of 2018. The events following September 11, 2001 played a critical role in Chief Andrus’ decision to pursue the fire service, a decision he has never regretted.
Chief Andrus completed his Paramedic certification from Dixie State College in 2005 then later, continued his education at Utah Valley University and obtained his Bachelor’s in Emergency Management in 2013. He and his wife, Laurie, have 6 children that love the City of Mesquite and the desert lifestyle. He enjoys spending time with his family either camping, going to the lake, or spending time at the park.
In all positions that he has held he has served with optimism and passion. In 2021 Chief Andrus graduated from University of Nevada, Las Vegas with his Masters of Public Administration. Chief Andrus is credentialed as a Chief Fire Officer through the Center for Public Safety Excellence. Chief Andrus enjoys working for the public and most of all, running emergency calls and working with the professionals at Mesquite Fire Rescue. He truly believes being a firefighter is the best job in the world.
